1.      =20 The = photograph=20 for each visa applicant must be an unmounted,=20 full face photo, as described above.

2.      =20 The = photograph=20 must have been taken within the last six months. =

3.      =20 One = photograph=20 must be submitted stapled or glued to the application DS-156.=20

4.      =20 The = photo for=20 each visa applicant submitted must measure:

=B7           = ;            =   =20 2 by 2 = inches=20 (roughly 50 mm square) with the head centered in the frame.=20

=B7           = ;            =   =20 The = head=20 (measured from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin) = should=20 measure between 1 inch to 1 3/8 inches (25 mm = to 35=20 mm) with the eye level between 1 1/8 inch to 1 3/8 inches = (28 mm=20 and 35 mm) from the bottom of the photo.

 

5.      =20 The = photograph=20 must be a full-face front view in which the visa applicant is = facing the=20 camera directly.

6.      =20 The = applicant's=20 head, measured from the bottom of the chin to the top of the hair, = should=20 be between 1 inch and 1-3/8 inches. The head should be centered in = the=20 photo. The head of the person being photographed should not be = tilted up,=20 down or to the side.

7.      =20 The = face should=20 cover about 50 percent of the photo area.

8.      =20 The = photograph=20 may be in color or black and white, but must have only a white or=20 off-white background. Photos with dark, busy or patterned = backgrounds will=20 not be accepted.

9.      =20 In = general, the=20 applicant's head, including both face and hair, should be shown = from the=20 crown of the head to the tip of the chin on top and bottom and = from=20 hairline side-to-side. It is preferable that ears be exposed.=20

10.   =20 The = photo should=20 show a clear, front view, full face of the applicant. The = applicant should=20 be in normal street attire, without hat or dark glasses against a = plain=20 white or off-white background. The applicant should have a natural = expression, mouth closed, and eyes open and looking directly = ahead. Photos=20 in which the face of the person being photographed is not in focus = will=20 not be accepted.

11.   =20 Head = coverings=20 and hats are only acceptable due to religious beliefs, and even = then, may=20 not cover any portion of the applicant's face. =

12.   =20 Eyeglasses worn=20 on a daily basis can be worn for the photo. However, there should = be no=20 reflections from the eyeglasses that obscure the eyes.=20

13.   =20 Sunglasses or=20 other wear, which detracts from the face, are not acceptable = unless=20 required for medical reasons (an eye patch, for example). A = medical=20 certificate may be required.

14.   =20 A = photograph=20 depicting a person wearing a traditional facemask or veil that = does not=20 permit adequate identification is not acceptable. =

15.   =20 Photos = of=20 military, airline, or other personnel = wearing=20 hats are not acceptable. Photographs of applicants wearing tribal, = national costume, or other headgear not specifically religious in = nature=20 are not acceptable.

16.   =20 For a = minor=20 child, only the child must be the subject in the photo. Nothing = used to=20 support the minor child, whether by mechanical or human means, = should be=20 in the camera's frame.

17.   =20 Only = original=20 photographs are acceptable. Copied or digitally scanned photos of = photos=20 will not be accepted. In addition, photos must not be retouched to = alter=20 the customer's appearance in any way.

18.   =20 Group = photos are=20 NOT accepted for a party applying for a visa together. Since a = separate=20 visa is issued to each qualified applicant, an individual photo is = required in all cases.

19.   =20 Staple = or glue=20 one photograph to the DS-156 in the designated space. If the = photograph is=20 stapled, staples should be placed as far away as possible from the = applicant's face.
